Women’s soccer headed back to A-R-C Championship match

INDIANOLA, Iowa – Jordyn Foelske and Julia Wagoner assisted Cassie Nash on a pair of goals to send the Simpson College women's soccer team back to the American Rivers Conference Tournament Championship with a 2-0 win over Luther in the semifinals.

No. 2-seed Simpson will travel to No. 1-seed Loras, which defeated Dubuque 3-0 in tonight's other semifinal matchup, for the title game on Saturday evening.

Both of Simpson's goals were scored in the first 16 minutes of play and involved long passes through the Norse defenders for Nash to finish. Foelske played the first ball to Nash just over five minutes into the game and Wagoner followed with another pass from midfield 10 minutes later, which Nash ricocheted off the right post and in.

The two goalkeepers took over the match from there, combining for 13 saves in the final 75 minutes. Ken Vavrichek stopped seven shots to keep Luther (8-7-4) in the game, while Lani Mears made a total of eight saves on the night to hand Simpson (15-7-1) its 10th shutout of the year.
