FULTON, Mo. – The Simpson College women's soccer team defeated Westminster 2-0 on Monday evening to improve to 6-1 on the year.
The Storm went ahead early, scoring their first goal at the 9:33 mark. Maddie Hays sent the ball into the box for Brissa Valadez who passed the ball around the keeper for Jordyn Foelske to finish. Hays later doubled Simpson's lead by converting a penalty kick in the 64th minute.
Simpson outshot Westminster 22-7, with a 13-3 shots on goal advantage. Meredith Downs made three saves for the visitors, recording the first solo shutout of her collegiate career.
NOTES
- Simpson improves to 5-3 in the all-time series, winning its second straight over the Blue Jays.
- Foelske and Hays both tallied their first goals of the season. Seven different players have now scored for the Storm this season.
- This is the second straight game and third time this season Simpson has taken 20 or more shots.
