Storm land back in United Soccer Coaches Top 25
KANSAS CITY, Mo. – The Simpson College women's soccer team moved back into the top 25 in this week's United Soccer Coaches Poll, while retaining its position as the No. 2-ranked team in Region IX.
The Storm initially cracked into the national rankings at No. 25 on Sept. 26, but fell one spot out a week ago. Simpson is now tied for No. 24 with the University of Hartford. The latest poll was based on results through Oct. 8, when Simpson sat at 10-1-1.
A trio of goals from Hailey Kowzan, Brissa Valadez and Julia Wagoner led the Storm to their 11th win of the season last night as Simpson defeated Nebraska Wesleyan 3-0 at home. The win was the Storm's third in a row as they improved to 4-0-0 in conference play for the first time since 2005.
Simpson has a couple of tough contests coming up against the first- and third-ranked teams in the conference. The Storm will look to hand Loras its first league loss of the year on Saturday before making their way back to Dubuque to face the Spartans next Wednesday. All three teams are ranked in Region IX, with Simpson checking in at No. 2, Loras at No. 3 and Dubuque at No. 7.
