Nash’s hat trick propels Simpson to win in home opener

INDIANOLA, Iowa – Cassie Nash's first hat trick of the season propelled the Simpson College women's soccer team to a 3-1 victory over Gustavus Adolphus on Sunday morning.

Nash scored one goal in the first half and added two more late in the second after Gustavus Adolphus (1-1-0) managed to tie the game in the opening minutes of the second period. The Lincoln, Neb. native has either scored or assisted on all five of Simpson's goals this season.

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • Nash scored her first goal of the game and season in the 11th minute off a short pass from Anna Sharp from just inside the box.
  • The Golden Gusties leveled the game on a high-flying shot from Lillian Selberg that went over the head of Storm goalkeeper Meredith Downs and into the back of the net.
  • With just over 20 minutes left, Nash collected a pass from Macy Kuhns and fired a shot that bounced off the left post and into the net to give Simpson the lead back.
  • The senior completed her hat trick in the 84th minute, taking a perfect pass from Ally Hoffa into the box, past the goalie and into the far right corner of the net.
