Women’s soccer ranked nationally for first time in program history

KANSAS CITY, Mo. – For the first time in program history, the Simpson College women's soccer team has appeared in the national rankings, coming in at No. 25 in the latest United Soccer Coaches weekly poll.

The Storm (7-1-0) had been receiving votes in the Top 25 poll the last two weeks and made the official cut with a pair of shutout wins over Westminster (2-0) and Central (3-0) last week. Simpson also ranks second in Region IX behind Wis.-La Crosse.

Midway through the 2023 regular season, Simpson has outscored its opponents 16-3 behind goals from eight different players. All-American Cassie Nash leads the way with six goals, freshman Averi Baas is next with three and reigning American Rivers Conference Offensive Player of the Week Jordyn Foelske has scored twice.

The Storm defense led by senior goalkeeper Lani Mears has posted five shutouts thus far. Simpson ranks 22nd in the nation with a 0.375 goals against average.

Simpson travels to Wisconsin today to take on Wis.-Eau Claire (5-1-2) at 7:30 p.m. The Blugolds are ranked sixth in Region IX.
