
Gurwell drops 32 as Simpson falls to Luther
INDIANOLA, Iowa - Despite a career-high 32 points from Levi Gurwell, the Storm dropped a defensive battle 63-53 to Luther on Saturday night.
The Storm (5-17, 2-11 A-R-C) struggled to find offense outside of the junior guard as Gurwell accounted for 32 of their 53 points. Gurwell ended the night 11-for-23 from the field, along with six 3-pointers, and a perfect 4-for-4 at the line. Outside of Gurwell, the Storm went 7-for-40 from the field as Luther (2-19, 1-12 A-R-C) clamped down defensively to knock off the Storm inside Cowles Fieldhouse.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Simpson began the game with just four points over the opening seven minutes, falling behind early 10-4.
- Gurwell provided the offensive spark in the first half, scoring the final 13 points for the Storm, including taking the lead for the Storm twice on 3-pointers.
- Luther closed out the half scoring 11 straight to take a 27-19 lead into halftime.
- Gurwell continued his scoring streak for the Storm in the second half with a basket before a dunk from Matt Schubert ended the run at 15 points.
- Simpson managed to trim the lead down to just one point with 14 minutes left but was unable to get closer.
- Luther used a 19-2 run over seven minutes to ice the game and seal the victory for the Norse.
