Rasmussen's career-high 22 points paces Storm in loss to Cornell

INDIANOLA, Iowa - Freshman Colton Rasmussen knocked down six 3-pointers en route to a career-high 22 points to pace the Storm in a 79-71 loss to Cornell College on Thursday night.

Rasmussen struck for five 3-pointers in the first half, while Levi Gurwell added 13 points, and Matt Schubert and Cam Henderson finished with 12 each. Simpson (2-8) led by as many as 10 in the second half, but Cornell (8-3) shot nearly 50 percent from the field to fuel the second half comeback.

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • Rasmussen connected on his first 3-pointer of the game four minutes in to give Simpson a slight 5-4 lead.
  • After a slow start offensively for both sides, back-to-back 3-pointers from Rasmussen jump started the game with Simpson leading 16-10 with 10:56 left in the half.
  • The Storm continued to hit from the outside when Bo Huston connected, giving Simpson its largest lead of the first half at 27-18 with 7:08 left.
  • Cornell managed to cut the lead down to two before Simpson rallied behind two more 3-pointers from Schubert and Gurwell to carry a 39-31 lead into halftime.
  • Cam Henderson started the second half off with Simpson's 10th 3-pointer of the game, stretching the lead to their largest at 42-32.
  • The Storm's offense struggled to find their rhythm in the early goings of the second half, and Cornell capitalized to erase the deficit and eventually take a 48-47 lead with 13:46 on the clock.
  • Both sides went back-and-forth with the final tie coming off of Rasmussen's final 3-pointer of the game, locking the score at 64-64 with six minutes left.
  • In the final minutes, Cornell outpaced the Storm to a tune of 15-7 to close out the 79-71 result.
