
Second half comeback falls short in Storm home opener
INDIANOLA, Iowa - A late second half comeback attempt by the Storm came up short as Simpson fell 74-59 in their home opener to Augsburg on Friday night.
After a back-and-forth first half, Augsburg (1-1) used an early second half run to open up a 15-point lead. The Storm (1-2) managed to chip away at the lead during the second half, narrowing the lead to six points with just three minutes left on the clock. However, the comeback attempt ran out of steam, as Augsburg sealed the game by scoring the final nine points.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Both sides traded baskets and the lead over the opening minutes, with Simpson on top 10-to-8 after a Marcus Haupert layup with 15:47 left.
- A 3-pointer from Caden Rehmeier stretched the Storm lead to their largest of the game at 19-to-15 with 12:23 on the clock.
- Augsburg used a 6-0 run to regain the lead, one the Auggies held onto for the rest of the first half, entering halftime with a 39-33 lead.
- The Auggies continued to expand their lead in the second half, leading by 15 at one point.
- Baskets from Rehmeier and Zay Howard jump started the offense for Simpson, as the Storm managed to trim the lead down to just six with 3:39 left.
- However, the Storm were unable to find the basket for the rest of the game, falling down the stretch 74-to-59.
