Henderson's career-high 26 lifts Storm to victory over Bethany Lutheran

MANKATO, Minn. - In a back-and-forth contest, a late second half surge fueled by a career-high 26 points from Cam Henderson, lifted Simpson to a 95-89 victory on Sunday afternoon.

Simpson (2-7) trailed by five with 3:35 left in the game, before locking down defensively in the final possessions, and using a 13-3 run to secure the road win. Henderson and Nathaniel Winter combined for 10 of the final 13 points as Simpson secured its second victory of the season.

As a team, Simpson outshot Bethany Lutheran 53.3 percent while holding the Vikings (2-6) to only 40.5 percent from the field. The Storm combined for nine 3-pointers, but carried the game at the free throw line, going 22-for-28.

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • Bethany Luthern opened the game with seven straight points before the Storm responded with a 24-10 run of their own to open up their largest lead of the game.
  • Caden Rehmeier led the charge with eight of the Storm's 24 points, while Simpson was a perfect 10-for-10 from the field and 4-for-4 beyond the arc during the run.
  • Simpson held onto the lead until seven minutes left in the half, when Bethany Lutheran closed out the half with a 25-18 run and carried a 47-44 lead into half.
  • Back-to-back baskets from Nathaniel Winter tied the game up early in the second half, before a Bo Huston 3-pointer gave Simpson the lead back.
  • The two sides traded the lead back and forth nine times with 10 ties in the second half.
  • The Storm managed to cut the lead back down to just one after a 4-point play from Bo Huston with 4:40 left in the game.
  • Bethany Lutheran stretched the lead back to five with 3:35 until Henderson and Winter combined for 10 of the Storm's final 13 points to lead the comeback.
