
Second half run comes up short in Storm's loss to Wartburg
WAVERLY, Iowa - Bo Huston led all Storm scorers with 16 points as Simpson fell in the second half to Wartburg on Saturday.
The Storm (4-16, 1-10 A-R-C) controlled the tempo of the game for most of the first half, leading Wartburg (12-8, 5-6 A-R-C) after 12 minutes of action. Despite the hot start offensively, Wartburg managed to use a 30-11 run that stretched from the final minutes of the first half, to the opening moments of the second half to control the game. Simpson responded with a 21-12 run of their own but were unable to complete the comeback, falling 85-63.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Storm started the game shooting 5-for-7 from the field to take an early 10-9 lead over Wartburg.
- Key 3-pointers from Gurwell, Winter, and Huston fueled Simpson to hold on to a 28-26 lead with 7:38 left in the half.
- Wartburg responded with a 22-11 run over the final minutes to eliminate the Storm's lead and carry a 48-39 lead into halftime.
- Eight straight points by the Knights to open the second half kept the momentum rolling from the first half.
- Simpson answered back with a run of their own, outpacing Wartburg 21-to-12 over 10 minutes; however, the momentum ran out down the stretch as Wartburg secured the win.
