
Bo Huston and hot shooting Storm overwhelm Coe in 83-78 victory
INDIANOLA, Iowa - Simpson put on an offensive clinic, shooting nearly 59 percent from the field, and 56 percent beyond the arc, led by Bo Huston's 27 points as Simpson defeated Coe 83-78 on Wednesday night.
The Storm (5-16, 2-10 A-R-C) showed up in front of packed Cowles Fieldhouse as the athletic department honored their student-athletes academic achievements last semester. Huston proved to be the catalyst on the offensive end, tying his career-high with 27 points on 9-for-15 shooting and four 3-pointers. The guard also added a team-high seven rebounds, and three assists.
Adding to Huston's production was fellow backcourt pairing Levi Gurwell with his 20 points. Gurwell went 8-for-12 from the field, and also landed four 3-pointers, along with his four steals, three assists, and three rebounds. Austin Murrow and Nathaniel Winter combined for 14 points, six rebounds, six assists, and six steals to help the Storm to their second win in conference action.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Huston wasted no time setting the tone, dropping two 3-pointers in the opening minutes to put Simpson up 9-7 early.
- The two sides traded the lead back-and-forth throughout the first half until Simpson pulled ahead 27-22 on baskets from Winter, Gurwell, and Huston.
- Coe responded right back with a 17-4 run before the Storm punched back with their own run of 11-0, highlighted by three 3-pointers to carry a 42-41 lead into halftime.
- After a first half that resulted in both teams shooting well, the two struggled to find their rhythm in the second half, opening the half with just 16 points combined over the first seven minutes of action.
- Murrow provided the spark offensively, hitting two key 3-pointers in the second half before Huston connected on another 3-pointer to put Simpson up 56-53 with 11:42 left.
- Coe continued to chip away at the lead, eventually taking control 68-63 with just 6:37 left on the clock.
- Down the stretch, Gurwell and Huston combined for nine straight points as Simpson came up with clutch baskets from Brogan Fuller and Matt Schubert to open up a 76-70 lead with under three to play.
- Simpson sealed the game at the free throw line, going 7-for-8 in the final minutes as the Storm hung on for the 83-78 victory over Coe.
