
Strong second half lifts Loras past Storm men's basketball
INDIANOLA, Iowa - A strong offensive second half from Loras lifted the Duhawks to a 100-72 victory over Simpson on Saturday night.
Fueled by Gavin Sarvis' 40-point performance, Loras (12-4, 6-1 A-R-C) surged in the second half after erasing a 12-point deficit in the first half. Simpson (4-13, 1-7 A-R-C) jumped out of the gates with an early 24-12 lead but was unable to keep the momentum in their favor as Loras steamed back to a halftime lead. Levi Gurwell and Matt Schubert led the way in scoring with 13 and 10 points respectively.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- The first half was a tale of two runs, with Simpson opening the game with the first punch.
- The Storm began the game with a 12-2 run to open up an early 24-12 edge behind baskets from Bo Huston and Matt Schubert.
- Loras responded with their own run, outpacing Simpson 14-3 to take their first lead of the game, and one they led into halftime 39-37.
- Loras continued the trend in the second half, quickly expanding their lead to 12 on a 14-4 run.
- The offense continued for Loras throughout the second half as the Duhawks shot 20-for-31 from the field, and outscored Simpson 61-to-35 to secure the 100-72 result.
