Women’s soccer collects five all-conference nods

CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa -- The Simpson College women's soccer team landed five student-athletes on the American Rivers Conference All-Conference Team, as announced by the league on Wednesday.

Lizzie Arnburg, Abby Cozzoni, Cassie Nash, and Megan Roberts were all named to the All-A-R-C First Team, the most Simpson has had on the first-team since 2006. Brenny Frederick earned honorable mention accolades for the first time in her career to round out Simpson's honorees.

Simpson closed the season with its highest win total since 2011 thanks to a 13-6-1 overall record. The Storm also tallied the most conference wins in 15 seasons thanks to six A-R-C victories. The team wrapped up the regular season on a five-game win streak where they outscored opponents 20-0, and collected their first postseason victory since 2011 against Central in the A-R-C First Round.

Arnburg, a junior from Earlham, Iowa, earned a spot on the first team after starting 19 games and logging 1490 minutes from her midfield position. She scored a goal in the Storm's non-conference win over Grinnell, provided an assist against Augustana, and helped Simpson's defense pick up seven shutouts over the course of the season. Arnburg took 25 shots during the season, placing eight on frame.

Cozzoni, a junior from Wentzville, Mo., was a key contributer of the Storm's defense that shut out seven opponents including five conference foes in the month of October. She logged the second-most minutes on the team with 1628 and both scored and assisted on a goal during the season. Cozzoni earned her second-career A-R-C Defensive Player of the Week honor on Oct. 18 after helping Simpson blank Dubuque and Luther in league action.

Nash, a forward from Lincoln, Neb., wrapped up her junior campaign with her second career all-conference nod. She led the conference in points (33), shots (76), and shots on goal (43) and tied for first in goals scored (13). Nash also tied fellow teammate Hailey Kowzan for second in the league with seven assists. She had four multi-goal performances and three game-winners, and earned A-R-C Offensive Player of the Week on Sept. 27.

Roberts, a senior forward from Norwalk, Iowa, was the Storm's second-highest scorer with seven goals. She ranked second in the A-R-C in total shots (73), fourth in shots on goal (29), and eighth in goals scored. Roberts also ranked in the top-15 in points (17), assists (3) and game-winners (4). She had one multi-goal performance and scored all but one of her goals during the Storm's successful conference season.

Frederick, a sophomore goalkeeper from Ankeny, Iowa, landed on the honorable mention squad for the first time in her career. She played in 18 matches and finished the season with a 12-5-1 record between the posts. Frederick had the fourth-best goals against average in the conference with a 1.132 mark and posted four shutouts and two combined shutouts.
