Cozzoni’s goal lifts Storm to 1-0 victory

RIVER FALLS, Wis. -- Junior Abby Cozzoni's 58th-minute goal was the difference in a 1-0 victory for Simpson College women's soccer at Wisconsin-River Falls on Sunday.

Cozzoni notched her first career game-winner and just her second career goal to help the Storm (4-2-1) improve to 4-1-0 all-time against the Falcons (3-5-0).

Simpson's attack started early with four shots in the opening 11 minutes of action. The team ended with 10 shots in the first half, while UW-River Falls managed just one, which occurred in the sixth minute.

The hosts ramped up their offense in the second half by firing off seven shots, including two in the final minute. Madyson Shew had a nice look with 15 seconds left, but could not get enough power behind it that allowed sophomore Brenny Frederick to scoop up the ball to keep the shutout intact.

Frederick ended with three saves during the nonconference affair for her fifth career blank sheet.

Junior Cassie Nash, sophomore Julia Wagoner and freshman Liz Naasz all ended with three shots to pace the offence, while Nash had two on-goal.
