Storm blank Dubuque behind Kowzan’s two goals

DUBUQUE, Iowa -- Simpson College women's soccer snapped a 14-match winless streak against Dubuque in a big way by earning a 3-0 shutout on the road Tuesday evening.

The three goals are the most the Storm (8-5-1, 2-2-0 A-R-C) have scored against the Spartans (6-7-0, 2-3-0 A-R-C) since winning 3-1 on Sept. 23, 2006.

Sophomore Hailey Kowzan was the catalyst in the offense's outburst as the Pella native scored twice for her second multi-goal performance of the season and third of her career.

Kowzan found the back of the net in the fifth minute for the game-winner on an assist from junior Cassie Nash and struck again in the 63rd for her fifth of the season. Senior Megan Roberts widened the gap in the 78th minute with her third of the fall.

The Storm owned a 17-8 shot advantage and nine were on-goal. Freshman Liz Naasz, Kowzan and Roberts each had four attempts.

Sophomore Brenny Frederick collected her seventh victory and tallied two saves in the effort.

Simpson's defense now has three shutouts this campaign and have amassed 21 under head coach Jeremy Reinert's guidance since the start of the 2018 season.
