Nash, Roberts guide Storm to 2-1 win over Central

INDIANOLA, Iowa -- Senior Megan Roberts and junior Cassie Nash stole the show by each scoring in the first 19 minutes to lift Simpson College women's soccer to a 2-1 victory against Central on Wednesday.

This is the first time the Storm (7-4-1, 1-1-0 A-R-C) have won three-straight matches in the series over the Dutch (7-3-1, 1-1-0 A-R-C) since the 2010-11 seasons.

Not only did the duo score a goal, they also assisted on each other's netters to finish with three points to grab the Storm's first American Rivers Conference triumph this season. The Dutch fall for the first time in league play after earning the No. 7 slot in the United Soccer Coaches Region IX rankings yesterday.

Nash received a throw-in from Roberts and lofted a shot 20 yards over Central's Jasmyn Bush for her seventh goal of the season in the 12th minute.

Seven minutes later, the tandem struck again. Nash dribbled by a defender near the back line to place the ball in front of the goal to allow Roberts to slice it in for the 2-0 advantage.

The visitors were able to trim the deficit in half with a goal in the 70th minute to prevent getting shut out for the second time this season.

Simpson held tough in the second half to own an 11-5 shot tilt and finished the game with 20 attempts. Roberts ended with 10 shots, while sophomore Hailey Kowzan collected four.

Sophomore Brenny Frederick recorded six saves to collect her sixth victory this season.
