Storm net eight goals in shutout win over Beavers

STORM LAKE, Iowa — Four goals in each half propelled the Simpson College women's soccer team to an 8-0 victory over Buena Vista on Wednesday evening.

The win gives Simpson its third shutout in as many games and second 10-win season under Head Coach Jeremy Reinert.

Simpson's eight goals were the most the team has scored since tallying eight in a shutout against Iowa Wesleyan on Oct. 2, 2017.

Cassie Nash scored two goals and added an assist to lead the Storm (10-5-1, 4-2 A-R-C) in the effort. Nash wasted no time finding the back of the net as she put Simpson on the board just 31 seconds into the match. The junior was the first to score in the second half as well, taking a pass from Hailey Kowzan in the 51st minute to give the visitors a 5-0 lead.

Senior Megan Roberts also scored two goals for her first multi-goal performance of the year. Roberts scored in the 11th minute with the help of Liz Naasz and the 53rd minute.

The Storm's other goals were credited to Julia Wagoner (7'), Alexis Ponce (30'), Jordyn Foelske (59'), and Kasey Shanahan (63'). Ponce's goal was her second in as many games, while Shanahan's score was the first of her career. Wagoner and Foelske collected their first and third goal of the year, respectively.

Simpson took a season-high 33 shots during the contest with 24 of those on-goal. Buena Vista (1-13, 0-6 A-R-C) had three of four shots on target.
