Roberts nets game-winner, Storm shut out Eagles

INDIANOLA, Iowa -- A 15-5 shot differential led the way to a 1-0 victory for Simpson College women's soccer in its home opener against Benedictine on Saturday.

With nine of those 15 shots on target, senior Megan Roberts found the back of the net in the 63rd minute to lift the Storm (1-1-0) to their first win of the season to remain unbeaten in a home opener during their last three contests.

Freshman Jordyn Foelske set the game-winning play up by dribbling down the sideline before slicing the ball in front of the goal. Junior Cassie Nash was able to deflect the ball to an open Roberts for her 11th career goal.

Simpson was on the attack from the beginning by rattling off five shots in the first 17 minutes. Katherine Prochnow kept the game scoreless by corralling six saves in the first half for the Eagles (0-2-0). She ended with eight saves.

Junior Cambri Mason had her first appearance in goal for the Storm and kept a clean sheet with one save.

Roberts ended with four shots and Nash had three, with all of her attempts coming on frame.

Prior to the contest, Ava Reinert was recognized as an honorary captain during the team's Go 4 The Goal and Laced Up event to help raise money for pediatric cancer. The Storm have raised over $4,000 for pediatric cancer research, which ranks fourth on the national leaderboard among all divisions and athletic programs.
