Women’s soccer earns second-straight A-R-C shutout

INDIANOLA, Iowa -- The Simpson College women's soccer team earned their second-straight shutout against an American Rivers Conference opponent on Saturday afternoon with a 2-0 victory against Luther.

The win marks the third-straight 2-0 victory the Storm (9-5-1, 3-2 A-R-C) have posted against the Norse (7-8, 3-3 A-R-C) in the series.

Megan Roberts scored the game-winner in the 35th minute off a sneaky pass from Cassie Nash. After a foul by the visitors, Lizzie Arnburg sent the ball sailing towards the goal where Nash was surrounded by the Luther defense. The sophomore won the hard-fought battle of possession and poked the ball over to Roberts who sent it flying over the goalkeeper's head for the 1-0 advantage.

In the 58th minute, Alexis Ponce scored on a cross from Hailey Kowzan to give the home team some breathing room with her first goal of the season.

Simpson finished the contest with 14 shots led by Roberts with seven. In goal, Brenny Frederick collected her eighth win of the season and seventh shutout of her career.
