Nash scores twice, Simpson wins 4-1 over Monmouth

INDIANOLA, Iowa -- The Simpson College women's soccer had its largest scoring output in four matches to win 4-1 against Monmouth on Sunday.

This is the second time under head coach Jeremy Reinert the Storm (6-2-1) have won six matches through the team's first nine contests in a season. The 2019 squad started 6-0-3 to end with 10 victories for the first double-digit win campaign since 2011.

While fans were still settling into their seats inside Buxton Stadium, junior Cassie Nash found the back of the net to put Simpson up 1-0 in the ninth minute. Nash just missed scoring seconds earlier but redeemed herself by chipping in the rebound as freshman Liz Naasz set up the play.

Nash notched her second goal of the game and the game-winner in the 27th minute after junior Brooklin Froehlich lobbed a pass through the defense. This is the third time of Nash's career, second this season, she has had a multi-goal performance.

The Fighting Scots (1-7-0) trimmed the deficit to one as the sister duo of Jordyn Gosell and Payton Gosell worked together for the netter in the 31st minute.

Junior Cambri Mason found the back of the net for the first time this season in the 64th minute and freshman Jordyn Foelske increased the cushion in the 90th minute with her third goal of the season. Maddie Hays and Foelske are the first freshman to score at least three goals in a season since 2011, when Nicole Dillenburg ended with three.

The Storm owned a 28-17 shot advantage during the nonconference battle, including 20 on-goal to keep Quinn Cutler busy with 16 saves. Junior Megan Roberts and Nash both ended with eight shot attempts.

Sophomore Brenny Frederick corralled eight shots for the second most of her young career.
