Storm conclude regular season with 4-0 win on Senior Night

INDIANOLA, Iowa — The Simpson College women's soccer team capped off the 2021 regular season with a memorable 4-0 victory over Nebraska Wesleyan on Senior Night inside Buxton Stadium.

On a night that was all about celebrating the senior class, it was only fitting that Tatum Tremain would make a big impact with not one, but two of the Storm's goals.

The team celebrated Tremain early on when the senior from State Center, Iowa scored off a ricochet from the Nebraska Wesleyan (5-11, 2-6 A-R-C) goalkeeper who made a diving save on a penalty kick but wasn't able to corral the ball.

Little did the team know they would be celebrating her again before the night was over. After Cassie Nash gave Simpson a 2-0 lead at the break, she teamed up with Tremain to add some more insurance in the 50th minute for the senior's second goal of the night and second of her career.

"Tonight was special for a lot of reasons, but I'm most happy for Tatum, said Head Coach Jeremy Reinert. "She's the epitome of selfless-leadership and being a true teammate. Wow, what a moment for her. This is one we'll always remember."

Jordyn Foelske's goal in the 67th minute gave Simpson (12-5-1, 6-2 A-R-C) its fourth of the night and 20th unanswered score dating back to Oct. 12. The Storm have captured five-straight shutouts and finished the regular season ranked third in conference standings after being picked fifth in the preseason coaches' poll.

"Collectively our team is playing the best soccer we have all year, said Reinert. "We're peaking at the right time and we are ready to showcase what we are capable of."

As the No. 3 seed in the A-R-C Tournament, the Storm will host sixth-seeded Central in a first-round match on Oct. 30. The winner of Saturday's contest will travel to No. 2 Wartburg for the semifinal round on Nov. 3. The Championship will then take place at the highest remaining seed on Nov. 6.
