Hays takes home Second Team All-American honor

MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. - Maddie Hays of the Simpson College women's track and field team earned Second Team All-American status in the 400 meter hurdles on the first day of the NCAA Championships.

Hays becomes the first Storm female athlete to claim an All-American honor since Kinsey Bak and Catie Ellingson in 2012. Hays clocked a time of 1:03.54 in the event, earning Simpson's first All-American honor in the event since former standout Lauren Bucklin at the 2009 championships. The Erie, Colo. native closes out one of the most successful individual seasons from a Storm athlete in program history, setting three school records, while earning All-Conference, All-Region, and All-American awards.

"Maddie had a great year for us, resetting a handful of school records along the way," said Storm associate head coach James Hoffman. "It's a great experience for her to get to the national meet and it hopefully sets the bar for what she will accomplish the rest of her career."

The distance duo of Lara Kallem and Teghan Booth both competed in the 10,000 meters, ending their seasons placing in the national meet. Booth claimed 18th with a time of 37:23.80, while Kallem placed 20th, clocking a time of 37:44.52, as she closed out her terrific Storm career.
