Hays breaks school record in 300 meter dash
AMES, Iowa - Maddie Hays of the Simpson College women's track and field team broke the school record in the 300 meter dash that had stood for 30 years at the Iowa State Holiday Invite.
Hays's time of 41.34 broke Rhesa Ashbacher's previous record that had stood since 1993 by over a second. Hays also won her heat in the event, defeating multiple Division I runners in the field.
"For Maddie to turn around with almost no time off between seasons and to put together the type of workouts she has the last few weeks has been impressive," said Storm associate head coach James Hoffman. "Breaking the school record in the 300 meters and putting up a top 5 all-time mark in the 60 meters showcases the versatility she has and is a great first step towards the goals we laid out with her before the season started."
HIGHLIGHTS
- In addition to her school record, Hays ran an 8.07 in the 60 meters to move into fifth all-time in that event.
- Audrey Arnold clocked an 8.13 in the 60 meters as well, moving into eighth all-time for the Storm.
- Arnold also took fifth place in the 60 meter hurdles final, with a time of 9.23 that was just .02 seconds off her career best.
- Anna Parrott set a career-best in the long jump with a mark of 4.89 meters to cap off the Storm's meet.
