Hays breaks second school record of the season

GRINNELL, Iowa - The Simpson College women's track and field team saw one of its athletes set a school record for the second straight day, as Maddie Hays broke a 25-year old school record in the indoor 200 meters.

Hays clocked a time of 25.96, breaking the previous record held by Kelly Sheda since 1999. Hays also became the first Storm female runner to go under 26 seconds in the event.

"We have really focused on Maddie's training for the 200 and 400 meter distances," said Storm associate head coach James Hoffman. "We are excited to see how this will set her up in the conference meet later this month."

HIGHLIGHTS

  • Hays picks up her second school record of the season, now holding both the indoor 200 and 300 meter school records.
  • The junior standout also tied for second in the 60 meters, running a career-best 8.01.
  • Emily Erhardt clocked a time of 10:50.78 in the 3,000 meters, moving up to eighth all-time in school history.
  • Audrey Arnold took second in the 60 meter hurdles with a time of 9.32 in the final. 
  • The women overall took third place out of 10 teams, scoring 72 total points.
