Kallem sets new meet record at Wartburg Qualifier
WAVERLY, Iowa - Lara Kallem of the Simpson College women's track and field team set a new meet record in the 5,000 meters in the Wartburg Qualifier on Saturday.
Kallem finished with a time of 17:21.24, breaking the previous meet record that was set by Central's MariKate Murphy in 2018. Kallem also ended up winning the race, outkicking Sophie Tedesco of the University of Chicago.
HIGHLIGHTS
- Kallem's final 200 and 400 meters were the fastest legs of any individual throughout the entire race, clocking a 78 second final 400 and a blistering 37 second final 200.
- Teammate Teghan Booth took third in the race with a time of 17:25.92.
- Audrey Arnold set a new personal best in the 60 meter hurdle prelims with a time 9.10.
- She then improved on that in the final, taking fourth in a time of 9.02.
- Maddie Hays finished third in the 400 meters with a time of 58.22.
