Kallem, Booth break 5,000 meter school record in outdoor debuts

PLATTEVILLE, Wis. - Lara Kallem and Teghan Booth of the Simpson College women's track and field team both broke Kallem's old school record in the 5,000 meters at the Wis.-Platteville Invitational.

Kallem became the first Storm female runner to break the 17-minute barrier in the event, with a time of 16:57.88. The time broke her previous record by around 40 seconds, set at last year's Kip Janvrin Open.

Booth also went under the previous school record, clocking a time of 17:03.18 to finish four places behind Kallem in the race.

"Lara and Teghan have been running on a new level since this fall and today they both took it up a notch," said Storm director of track and field and cross country Heath Moenck. "The improvement they have made over the last year has been remarkable and I could not be more happy for them both."

HIGHLIGHTS

Kallem finished 15th in the race of 117 runners, with her time 17th in Division III this season at time of writing.
At the Jim Duncan Invitational in Des Moines, Emily Erhardt set a new personal best in the 3,000 meter steeplechase, clocking a time of 11:45.86.
Erhardt finished third in the race, with the time moving her into third place all-time in school history.
Maddie Hays also claimed a bronze in the 400 meter hurdles, with a time of 1:03.59, a new season-best.
Ava Carder set a new personal best in the 800 meters, with a time of 2:21.35. Carder's time is the fastest 800 meters by a Storm runner since Audrey Klein in 2019.
The 4x100 meter relay team of Audrey Arnold, Maddax DeVault, Bianca Clemons, and Hays clocked a time of 49.81, just outside the top five in school history.
