Arnold wins two events in season-opening meet

GRINNELL, Iowa - Audrey Arnold won two sprint events to open the season for the Simpson College women's track and field team.

Arnold won the 60 meter hurdles first in a time of 9.33, before running a career-best 8.23 in the normal 60 meters. For the men, Max Cleveland clocked a blistering 8.00 in the 60 meter hurdles, beating Dylan Kalinay's previous record of 8.11. The senior standout also performed in the high jump, winning the competition by tying his career-best with a mark of 1.88 meters.

HIGHLIGHTS

  • Cleveland's new school record is tied for the 19th-fastest time in Division III history.
  • Competing in his first high jump event since 2020, Cleveland also won the event for his second win on the day. Clarke Latcham tied for second behind Cleveland with a mark of 1.83 meters.
  • Anna Parrott (8.41) and Kate Weiss (8.57) took the other two podium spots in the 60 meters for the Storm.
  • Adam Gruhn won the men's 600 meters in a career-best time of 1:26.19, with teammate Corbin Truitt taking the silver in 1:27.27.
  • The men's 4x400 meter relay team composed of Blake DePhillips, Cleveland, Gruhn, and Joseph Sams also won the event in a time of 3:29.07, over two seconds better than last year's best time.
