Kallem breaks 3,000 meter school record

AMES, Iowa - Lara Kallem of the Simpson women's track and field team ran a blistering 10:08.91 in the 3,000 meters to break the school record in the event at the Iowa State Cyclone Open.

Kallem's time lowered the previous school record set by Sarah Cross in 1990 by almost three seconds. Teammate Teghan Booth was also less than a second off the record, running a time of 10:12.18 to move into third in school history.

"Lara breaking another school record is a tribute to her work ethic and desire to be great," said Storm director of track and field and cross country Heath Moenck. "Both Lara and Teghan were incredible tonight and it is great to see them pick back up from the cross country season."
