Five players secure all-region honors
INDIANOLA, Iowa – Five members of the Simpson College women's soccer team were voted to the United Soccer Coaches All-Region IX Team revealed on Tuesday, breaking the program record for selections for the third consecutive year.
Cassie Nash earned a spot on the first team for the third year in a row, becoming the first four-time all-region performer in program history. Hailey Kowzan and Elle Street were both voted to the second team, Julia Wagoner was a third team selection, and Meredith Downs earned a spot on the fourth team.
The 2024 season was another historic campaign for the Storm, who advanced to the second round of the NCAA Division III Tournament for the second year in a row. Simpson finished the year with a 15-3-3 record and was ranked as high as No. 25 in the country and No. 2 in the region.
The Storm found the back of the net 61 times this season, the most since scoring 77 goals in 2004. Simpson ended the season with a +40 goal differential, also the best since 2004.
Simpson's five all-region selections are a new program record. The Storm had multiple selections for the first time in 2022 and saw three players earn the distinction in 2023.
The United Soccer Coaches will announce its 2024 All-America Team on Thursday.
Cassie Nash, First Team
- Senior forward from Lincoln, Neb.
- Earns her fourth career all-region honor
- Registered 19 goals and eight assists for 46 points
- Scored six gamewinners, ending her career with 24
- Recorded a hat trick at Central, contributing to a six-game scoring streak
- Registered at least one point in all but five games this season
- Named A-R-C Athlete of the Week and Offensive Player of the Week on Sept. 30
Hailey Kowzan, Second Team
- Fifth-year midfielder from Pella, Iowa
- Earns her first all-region award
- Recorded career-high assists (12), goals (6), and points (24)
- Scored six goals, including four across four straight games
- Registered multiple assists in two games, including the A-R-C Championship match
- Tied for the fifth-highest single season assist total in team history
Elle Street, Second Team
- Junior defender from Ankeny, Iowa
- Earns her first all-region award
- Played a team-high 1828 minutes
- Helped Simpson to a 0.99 goals against average overall
- Scored a go-ahead goal against Loras in the A-R-C Championship
- Anchored the Storm defense to 10 shutouts
Julia Wagoner, Third Team
- Fifth-year midfielder from Council Bluffs, Iowa
- Earns her second straight all-region recognition
- Played 1700 minutes, helping Simpson to 61 goals and a 0.99 goals against average
- Scored two goals, including one against No. 1 WashU in the NCAA Round of 32
- Recorded two assists, including one in the A-R-C Semifinals against Wartburg
- Helped anchor the Storm defense to 10 shutouts
Meredith Downs, Fourth Team
- Sophomore goalkeeper from Johnston, Iowa
- Earns her first all-region recognition
- Played over 1550 minutes in goal, compiling a 13-3-3 record
- Finished the year with a 1.16 goals against average
- Made 68 saves and recorded eight shutouts
