Nash’s golden goal propels Simpson to NCAA Second Round

ST. LOUIS, Mo. – The Simpson College women's soccer team delivered a dramatic performance in the NCAA Tournament First Round, as Cassie Nash scored a golden goal in the 101st minute to lift the Storm to a thrilling 2-1 victory over Wis.-La Crosse.

The win propels Simpson (15-2-3) to the second round of the national tournament for the second year in a row and third time in program history. The Storm will now take on No. 1 Washington-St. Louis (18-0-2) on Sunday night at 7 p.m.

After a scoreless first half, Ally Hoffa put the Storm in front with a goal in the 50th minute. The advantage held until the 74th minute when Wis.-La Crosse's Jessica Stewart converted a header off a corner kick to level the score at 1-1.

In the final 90 seconds of regulation, Meredith Downs made a massive save on an Eagles' penalty kick to preserve the tie and send the game into overtime. Simpson took three shots in the first overtime period before Nash sent home the gamewinner just 29 seconds into the second extra period.
