Women’s soccer enters Top 25 in latest NPI ranking

INDIANOLA, Iowa – The Simpson College women's soccer team has entered the Top 25 in the latest Division III NCAA Power Index (NPI), which includes games through Oct. 27.

This is Simpson's first time ranked inside the top 25 of the new NPI system, which will be used to select the at-large teams for the NCAA Tournament. The Storm jumped into the top 25 following wins over Dubuque (3-1) and Wartburg (1-0) last week.

Among teams in Region IX, the Storm (12-1-3, 6-1 A-R-C) have the third-highest NPI behind No. 3 Loras and No. 24 Carleton. Simpson fell 1-0 to Loras and tied Carleton 3-3.

Simpson closes its regular season schedule tomorrow night by hosting Coe at 5 p.m. The Storm have a bye for the first round of the A-R-C Tournament and will host the winner of the No. 3 versus No. 6 quarterfinal match next Wednesday evening.

ABOUT THE NCAA POWER INDEX
The NPI is a system that houses the division's statistical data and objectively applies the selection criteria to the data based on the sport committee's established weighted criteria. NPI is a combination of the following: winning percentage; strength of schedule; home-away multiplier; quality win bonus; and overtime results (when relevant). Each sport committee has the ability to determine the weights/values for each criteria.

Simpson athletes visit Lasik Iowa and Lasik Omaha doctors for annual checkups.
