Women’s soccer headed back to NCAA Tournament
INDIANOLA, Iowa – For the third time in program history and the second consecutive year, the Simpson College women's soccer team has earned a spot in the NCAA Division III Women's Soccer Tournament.
Simpson (14-2-3) checked in at No. 31 in the final NCAA NPI rankings of the year and will head to St. Louis, Mo. to face Wis.-La Crosse in the opening round on Nov. 16 at 8 p.m. The winner will take on either No. 1 WashU or DePauw in the second round the following day at 7 p.m.
The Storm are coming off a runner-up finish in the American Rivers Conference Tournament. Simpson entered as the No. 2 seed after posting a strong 7-1 record in conference play. After a first-round bye, the Storm defeated third-seeded Wartburg in a hard-fought 1-0 semifinal to secure a spot in the championship match for the third consecutive year. Goals by Cassie Nash and Elle Street gave the Storm two leads in the game, but Loras staged a late comeback, narrowly edging out Simpson in the final minutes.
