Simpson falls to No. 1 WashU in the Round of 32

ST. LOUIS, Mo. – The Simpson College women's soccer team fell 5-1 to No. 1 Washington-St. Louis in the second round of the NCAA Tournament on Sunday.

The undefeated Bears (19-0-2) scored their first two goals in a span of 18 seconds and didn't stop there, taking a commanding 5-0 lead into halftime. Sophie Viscovich netted back-to-back goals in the 16th and 28th minutes, while Ally Hackett, Grace Ehlert and Olivia Clemons each scored once in the effort.

In the 64th minute, Julia Wagoner became just the seventh player this season to find the back of the net against last year's national runner-up, heading in a corner kick by Hailey Kowzan, who picked up her 12th assist of the season.

NOTES

  • The Storm conclude the season with a 15-3-3 record, with their only losses being to the top 2 teams in the country.
  • Simpson's 15 wins are tied for the third most in a single season.

CELEBRATING THE SENIORS

  • Hailey Kowzan's 12 assists this season are the most by a Storm player since 2003. She closes her career with the sixth-most assists (28) in program history, and also scored 17 goals of her own.
  • Sixteen of Kowzan's assists came on goals by Cassie Nash, who concludes her historic career with 198 points (2nd all-time), 82 goals (2nd all-time) and 34 assists (5th all-time). 
  • Julia Wagoner finishes her time at Simpson with eight goals and nine assists. 
  • Jordyn Foelske found the back of the net 20 times and assisted 19 other goals in her four years. 
  • Maddie Hays tallied 15 goals and two assists in Simpson uniform, with 14 of her goals coming via penalty kicks.
  • Layna Depping scored twice this season and finishes her career with eight points.
