No. 5/6 Simpson tops Nebraska Wesleyan 96-46

INDIANOLA, Iowa – The No. 5/6 Simpson College women's basketball team beat Nebraska Wesleyan 96-46 on Wednesday night to finish out the home portion of the regular season with a perfect 8-0 record inside Cowles Fieldhouse.

The Storm, who were ranked No. 1 in the first regional rankings released an hour before tip-off, pushed their win streak to 19 games and posted their widest margin of victory since defeating Kansas Christian by 74 points during the 2017-18 season. Simpson's 14 wins in conference play are the most since recording 14 during the 2010-11 campaign.

Simpson (22-1, 14-0 A-R-C) recorded 21 or more points in each quarter while limiting the Prairie Wolves (4-19, 2-13) to eleven or less in all but one frame. Kia Rasmussen gave the home team its first double-digit lead at the 1:23 mark of the opening stanza and the Storm widened the gap to 28 at the break with a dominant 21-7 second quarter. Cassie Nash, Cameron Kincaid and Jenna Taylor each had seven points in the frame.

Haley Rasmussen paved the way for Simpson in the third quarter with nine points thanks to 6 of 6 shooting from the free throw line and a 3-point basket as the clock expired that put the Storm ahead 73-44. Maggie Hall scored five in the fourth and a quartet of others had four points.

Simpson was 53.7 percent efficient from the floor with a balanced scoring attack that saw points from 13 different players. Kincaid led the way with 14, Nash had 13, and Taylor and Freland each had 11. H. Rasmussen chipped in nine, and the trio of K. Rasmussen, Anna Wanek and Macy Gaskill each had six. In total, the Storm had 54 points from the bench compared to Nebraska Wesleyan's four.

Taylor and Wanek each hauled in seven rebounds, while Hailey Cooper tallied six in just 12 minutes on the court. K. Rasmussen dished out seven assists and Nash handed out five and had four steals to tie Taylor for the game-high.
