Women’s basketball climbs two spots in D3hoops.com poll

INDIANOLA, Iowa -- After coming in at No. 14 in the week one D3hoops.com Top-25 poll, the Simpson College women's basketball team has climbed two spots to No. 12 in the second weekly poll released on Monday evening.

The Storm tallied 332 points after winning both of their road games in last week's action to improve to 6-1 overall and 2-0 in the conference. Simpson defeated UW-Superior (77-50) on Tuesday before beating Coe (91-71) on Saturday. The team's lone blemish of the season was a two-point loss to UW-Eau Claire, which now holds the No. 3 spot in the national poll.

Simpson is one of the most efficient shooting teams in the nation, sitting at the top of the leaderboard in free throw percentage (83.0), fifth in field goal percentage (47.3) and seventh in 3-point percentage (37.7). The Storm boast the sixth-best assist-to-turnover ratio (1.24), are averaging the 10th-most assists per game (18.3), and are ranked 17th in scoring offense (79.6).

The reigning American Rivers Conference champions will have one of their toughest league contests of the season this weekend when they host Wartburg inside Cowles Fieldhouse on Saturday. The Knights are undefeated at 6-0 and retained their position at No. 5 with 499 points in this week's poll.

The D3hoops.com poll is voted on by a panel of 25 coaches, Sports Information Directors and media members from across the country, and is published weekly. Points are awarded on a 25-24-23-22-etc. basis.
