No. 6 Simpson posts 29-point win in first road game

ST. PAUL, Minn. -- In the Storm's first road game of the season, the No. 6 Simpson College women's basketball team captured a 79-50 victory over Northwestern-St. Paul.

Simpson (2-0) doubled the hosts, 30-15, in the first half after the Storm defense held the Eagles (2-1) to single-digit scoring in both quarters. The Storm got out in front 19-6 after 10 minutes and stretched their lead to 15 in the second quarter despite shooting under 30.0 percent from the field.

In the third frame, the Storm made up for the second quarter offensive slump by making 58.8 percent of their shots from the floor including 62.5 percent of their three-point attempts. Kia Rasmussen drained two triples while Regan Freland, Morgan Pietig and Anna Wanek each had one.

The Eagles had five three-pointers of their own in the third, but the Storm held a 19-6 advantage elsewhere to lead 64-36 going into the fourth. Simpson maintained control the rest of the way to leave the Ericksen Center with a 29-point win.

Cassie Nash poured in 23 points thanks to 9-of-14 shooting from the field and five free throws. She led the team with six assists, had four rebounds, and added three steals.

Cameron Kincaid made 4-of-6 buckets and added four free throws for 12 points while also dishing out five assists and tallying three boards and a steal.

Wanek contributed nine points, Rasmussen had nine points and a team-high six rebounds, and Morgan Pietig and Jenna Taylor each brought down five boards.
