No. 14 Simpson cruises past UW-Superior

SUPERIOR, Wis. – The No. 14 Simpson College women's basketball team used a 14-0 run in the second quarter to pull away from the Yellowjackets and cruise to a 77-50 victory over Wisconsin-Superior on Tuesday.

Cassie Nash filled the stat sheet with 22 points, seven steals, two rebounds, two assists, and a block to lead the Storm in the effort. She scored all but three of her points in the first half, including 11 in the second frame, and shot over 60.0 percent from the field for the fourth time this season.

Jenna Taylor contributed 13 points and nine rebounds, Morgan Pietig finished with seven points, and Kia Rasmussen and Regan Freland each had four assists.

After a back-and-forth opening stanza, the Storm (5-1) used a 14-0 spurt in the second quarter to gain a comfortable lead they would hold on to the rest of the way. Freland started the streak with a layup at the 6:55 mark of the frame and four other players scored for Simpson during the stretch as the Storm took a 38-23 lead over the Yellowjackets (1-5) before eventually pushing the tilt to 18 at the half.

In the final 20 minutes, Simpson led by as many as 34 and saw scores from 10 players led by Pietig who scored five of her season-high seven.

The Storm won the turnover battle 30-14 and scored 32 points off the home team's giveaways.
