Taylor named A-R-C Female Athlete of the Week

CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa -- Just one game into the 2021-22 season, the accolades are already rolling in for Jenna Taylor as the Creston, Iowa native earned the title of American Rivers Conference Female Athlete of the Week as well as Women's Basketball Player of the Week.

This is the seventh time in her career that Taylor has earned player of the week honors and first time being named Female Athlete of the Week.

In No. 6 Simpson's 85-61 home victory over Gustavus Adolphus last Friday, Taylor secured her first double-double of the season and 16th of her career with a 22-point, 14-rebound performance. She shot 66.7 percent from the floor, 50.0 percent beyond the arc and made all three of her free throws, while adding four assists and a steal.

Taylor is now one of 10 student-athletes in Simpson women's basketball history to surpass 1,200 career points. Her current mark of 1,205 ranks 10th in the record book behind Emily Tonn who amassed 1,207 points between 1996-00.

Simpson now has nine A-R-C Player of the Week recipients this year. The women's soccer team had four earn the honor including Abby Cozzoni, Maddie Hays, Hailey Kowzan and Cassie Nash, the men's soccer team had two in Alan Imamovic and Jordy Triana-Vasquez, and women's golf's Madeline Streicher and men's cross country's Spencer Moon round out the honorees.

The Storm have one more game on tap before opening the A-R-C schedule next week. Simpson hits the road to face Northwestern (Minn.) at 4 p.m. on Saturday before heading to Loras for a conference clash with the Duhawks on Nov. 23.
