No. 6/7 Storm roll past Beavers at home

INDIANOLA, Iowa – The Simpson College women's basketball team recorded a dominating win in front of its home crowd on Wednesday evening, defeating Buena Vista by a final score of 86-38.

The No. 6/7 Storm (12-1, 4-0 A-R-C) claimed a 21-19 lead after 10 minutes before holding the Beavers (4-7, 2-3 A-R-C) to single digits in each of the remaining quarters while scoring 65 points on offense for the 48-point win, the team's largest margin of victory since defeating Nebraska Wesleyan 103-55 on Jan. 8, 2020.

Buena Vista used a pair of triples to tie the game at 19-all before a layup by Regan Freland with three seconds left in the frame kept the Storm's streak of leading after one quarter alive. Simpson has led after 10 minutes in every contest this season, outscoring opponents 330-201 along the way.

After finishing the second quarter with 13 unanswered points for a 44-26 halftime lead, Simpson scored six of the first eight second-half points and orchestrated a 24-0 spree in four and a half minutes as part of a 30-8 quarter. The Storm added 12 in the fourth while holding the Beavers to one field goal and a pair of free throws.

Jenna Taylor scored 19 points to pace a dozen Simpson scorers, Cameron Kincaid tallied 11 points and eight rebounds, and Kia Rasmussen had eight points to go with six assists. Cassie Nash scored 16 off the bench and tied her career-high seven steals.

Simpson finished the game with a 42.5 percent shooting clip from field goal range, while Buena Vista was limited to 25.5 percent shooting from the floor and 15.4 percent from three. The Storm scored 37 points off the Beavers' 35 turnovers and registered 25 steals throughout the contest, the most since 29 in a home win over Mount Mary in the 2014-15 season opener.
