No. 4/7 Storm pull away early, notch 12th straight win

INDIANOLA, Iowa – Anna Wanek notched the first 20-point game of her career, Jenna Taylor and Regan Freland logged 15 points apiece, and the No. 4/7 Simpson College women's basketball team won its 12th straight contest with a 89-53 home victory over Coe.

Wanek netted all 20 of her career-high points while playing just 12:03 of the first half that ended with Simpson (15-1, 7-0 A-R-C) taking a 56-31 lead into the locker room. She had 15 points in the first frame, including 10 during a 17-0 run that lifted the Storm to an early 26-7 lead, and added five in a second quarter that saw the home team knock down 73.3 percent of their field goal attempts.

After scoring the final two points of the first half, Taylor opened the second with a layup and later kicked off a 12-0 spurt with five points. Freland and Kia Rasmussen also got on the board during the scoring spree as both connected from three. In the fourth quarter, Haley Rasmussen paved the way with seven of her career-high nine points as Simpson led by as many as 40 in the frame.

Along with a new career-high point total, Wanek hauled in a career-high seven rebounds while tying both her career-high steal (3) and assist (3) totals. Hattie Rhodes tallied a pair of game-highs with nine rebounds and five assists to go with four points and a steal, Taylor added eight boards and an assist to her 15 points, and Cassie Nash filled her stat line with nine points, four rebounds, two steals and an assist.

The Storm forced the Kohawks (6-12, 3-6 A-R-C) into 21 turnovers while limiting their own to a season-low nine. Simpson outrebounded Coe 44-33 and held advantages in points off turnovers (29-8), points in the paint (38-16), second chance points (13-8), fast break points (21-1) and bench points (42-26).
