Women’s basketball heads into week ranked No. 5/7

INDIANOLA, Iowa – The Simpson College women's basketball team rose one spot in D3hoops.com rankings and stayed steady in the Women's Basketball Coaches Association standings to rank fifth and seventh, respectively, in the two national polls.

Simpson improved to 12-1 and 4-0 in the American Rivers Conference with an 86-38 win over Buena Vista last Wednesday inside Cowles Fieldhouse. The Storm have two league contests scheduled on the road for this week; they will travel to Lincoln to face Nebraska Wesleyan on Wednesday before taking on Dubuque on Saturday.

Among all Division III schools, Simpson is ranked first in assists (278), assist-to-turnover ratio (1.48), and free throw percentage (81.4%), third in field goal percentage (48.3%), and fifth in 3-point percentage (36.4%). Kia Rasmussen (5.00) owns the best assist-to-turnover ratio in the nation, while Cassie Nash (61.0% FG) and Cameron Kincaid (92.9% FT) rank among the top-5 in shooting percentages. Nash also has the sixth-most steals in the division with 46.

The weekly D3hoops.com poll is voted on by a panel of 25 coaches, Sports Information Directors and media members from across the country, while the WBCA poll is decided by a committee of 10 head coaches representing each DIII region. In each poll, total points are awarded based on 25 points for first place through one point for 25th.
