Kincaid hits career milestone in win over Eagles

DUBUQUE, Iowa – Senior Cameron Kincaid reached 1,000 career points and the Simpson College women's basketball team picked up its seventh win in a row with an 85-82 victory over Wisconsin-La Crosse on Wednesday afternoon.

Four players finished in double figure scoring for the Storm (10-1) led by Cassie Nash with 20 and Jenna Taylor with 18. Regan Freland made 5-of-6 attempts from three and two free throws for 17 points, and Kincaid finished with 17 points and became the 18th member of the program's 1,000 point club with her first basket of the second half.

Kia Rasmussen and Hattie Rhodes rounded out Simpson's scoring with eight and five points, respectively. Rasmussen led the team with seven assists and five steals, and Rhodes hauled in a game-high eight rebounds.

No. 8/10 Simpson cruised out to a 27-15 lead in the first quarter much thanks to 11 points from Freland who made all three of her long-range attempts in the frame. The two teams were even with 22 points in the second stanza as Simpson maintained its 12-point lead at the break. Nash tallied 10 points in the quarter and Freland stayed perfect behind the arc as both went into the locker room with 14 points.

After a back-and-forth third quarter that saw the Storm extend their lead to 14 on two occasions, the teams continued to trade baskets and a layup by Nash gave Simpson a 81-70 advantage with 4:41 remaining in the fourth. The Eagles (7-5) then mounted a 12-2 comeback run to slim Simpson's lead to just one with under two minutes to play. Rasmussen drove in a layup to give the Storm some cushion and Freland later secured the win with a steal on UW-La Crosse's last-chance possession.
