Women’s basketball notches 15th consecutive A-R-C win

LINCOLN, Neb. – Anna Wanek scored a career-high 19 points to lead the Simpson College women's basketball team in a 94-54 road victory against Nebraska Wesleyan.

The victory is the Storm's 10th in a row and 15th consecutive American Rivers Conference win. Simpson has now posted back-to-back wins of 40 or more points.

Wanek made 8-of-11 field goal attempts including 3-of-4 from deep to lead the team in scoring while also contributing six rebounds and three steals. Cassie Nash was next with 15 points and tied Morgan Pietig with a game-high six assists. Jenna Taylor chipped in 14 points and a game-high eight rebounds, and Kia Rasmussen and Cameron Kincaid each finished with 13 points.

No. 5/7 Simpson (13-1, 5-0 A-R-C) doubled the home team's scoring output in the first half, taking a 46-23 advantage into the locker room. The Storm got out to a 15-13 lead before separating themselves with a 20-2 run. During the stretch, Simpson tallied six of its 11 first-half steals and was 7-for-12 from the field, 2-for-3 from three and 4-for-4 at the line. Taylor converted four threes in five tries to pace all scorers in the first 20 minutes.

Simpson led by as many as 43 points in a dominant third quarter as an 18-0 run and back-to-back 3-pointers from Wanek helped put the visitors ahead 74-31 with 0:37 left in the frame. The Storm were 70.6 percent efficient from field goal range led by Wanek who went 5-for-5 from the floor with two rebounds and a steal.

Nebraska Wesleyan (2-10, 0-4 A-R-C) managed to outscore the Storm 21-20 in the final quarter to set the final score at 94-54. Simpson had seven different scorers during the frame. Taylor Gienger tied her career-high four points and Elise Boulton scored her first points as a member of the Storm.

Overall, Simpson shot 51.6 percent from the floor and sank 12 three-pointers in 24 attempts. The Storm were 16-for-19 at the charity stripe and outrebounded the Prairie Wolves 42-30 as eleven players contributed to the effort on the glass. The team registered 25 assists on 33 made field goals and had a big contribution from the bench as Simpson's reserves outscored the home team's 50-28.
