Simpson dominates Dubuque on Senior Day

INDIANOLA, Iowa – Kia Rasmussen had a double-double, Jenna Taylor scored 17 points and the Simpson College women's basketball team beat Dubuque 103-61 on Saturday at Cowles Fieldhouse in the final home game of the regular season.

The No. 14 Storm (8-0, 7-0 American Rivers) led from wire-to-wire in the matchup with the No. 3 team in the league standings, using a suffocating defensive effort to score 38 points off 28 Dubuque turnovers. Simpson held Dubuque to just six field goals in the first half and led by as many as 50 in the third quarter.

Rasmussen had a double-double in the first half alone and finished with 12 points, 13 assists and five steals. Taylor led five players in double figures, scoring 15 points in the first half. The Storm scored the first nine points of the game and went on a 14-0 run midway through the second quarter to put the game out of reach.

Tabria Thomas finished with 13 points for the Spartans (6-6, 5-3 American Rivers), who lost their sixth straight game in the series with Simpson.

Simpson recognized its five seniors before the game and wasted little time building a big lead. Trailing at the end of the first quarter in each of the last three games, Simpson put an emphatic end to that streak by holding Dubuque scoreless for more than four minutes to start the game.

Beginning with a Rasmussen runner to beat the first quarter buzzer, the Storm mounted a 14-0 run capped by a Kelli Hanson jumper to make the score 33-8. Rasmussen knocked down a 3-pointer in the closing seconds of the first half to give Simpson a 57-17 advantage.

Raegan Boothe finished with 14 points, Cassie Nash had 12 and Hanson added 11 off the bench for the Storm.

Sam Greving's made free throw with 19 seconds left gave Simpson its first 100-point game of the season. The Storm hit 16 3-pointers to tie a season-high.
