Storm finish regular season with 4-0 shutout

INDIANOLA, Iowa – The Simpson College women's soccer team ended its 2022 regular season with a 4-0 win over Wisconsin-River Falls.

The Storm (10-5-1, 6-2 A-R-C) scored twice in each half to notch their fifth consecutive win and fifth straight game with four or more goals. Simpson finishes the regular season with 50 goals, the team's highest scoring output since tallying 50 goals in 2006. In all but one of their 2022 wins, the Storm scored at least three goals.

For the fifth time this season, Simpson took a 1-0 lead less than five minutes into the game. Julia Wagoner fired a shot from at least 20 yards out that sailed over the fingertips of the goalie into the far corner of the net. Brissa Valadez then doubled the lead with her seventh goal of the season at the 6:27 mark off a cross from Cassie Nash.

Much like the first half, the Storm scored both of their second-half goals in the first 10 minutes of the period. Hailey Kowzan, the team's assists leader, dribbled the ball 75 yards before passing to Nash who punched it in for her 20th goal of the season. Simpson's margin grew to four three minutes later when Jordyn Foelske headed home a perfect corner kick from Wagoner.

With her 20th goal, Nash became the first to log a 20-goal season since Erin Goettl did so in 2003. She joins Alicia Vegas (4x), Goettl (3x), Tracie Whitney (2x) and Christy Pierick (1x) as the only players in school history to reach the 20-goal threshold.

Lani Mears improved to 9-4-1 between the posts while recording her sixth shutout of the season.

The Storm took 31 shots in the game while allowing UW-River Falls (9-6-4, 0-5-1 WIAC) to take seven.
