Women’s soccer falls to St. Catherine in first road match

ST. PAUL, Minn. - RV St. Catherine scored two goals in each half to top the Simpson College women's soccer team in its first road match of the season, 4-1, on Saturday.

The Wildcats (2-0-0) took a 1-0 lead just 16 minutes into the match but the Storm (0-1-1) responded only 13 seconds later with a goal of their own scored by Cassie Nash with the help of freshman Brissa Valadez, her first career assist and Nash's first score of the young season. The celebration didn't last long, though, as the hosts immediately found the back of the net again and carried a 2-1 lead into the break.

St. Catherine pushed its lead to two early in the second half and added another insurance goal a few minutes later off the foot of Ari Green, who finished the day with five points.

"Today we got a sense of what it's like to compete with one of the best in the nation," head coach Jeremy Reinert said. "At this point in the season, they were a better team. I'm excited to see how our group responds and the strides we can take over the next couple weeks!"

Simpson plays at Knox on Tuesday at 5 p.m. before traveling to Houston, Texas for a pair of matches on Sept. 9-10.
