Six players score in Simpson’s 7-0 home win

INDIANOLA, Iowa – Cassie Nash scored twice, three players converted their first goal of the season, and the Simpson College women's soccer team posted a 7-0 shutout over Buena Vista on Wednesday.

Nash opened the scoring in the 15th minute and added another goal 12 minutes later to give the home team a 2-0 halftime advantage. Simpson (5-4-1, 2-1 A-R-C) then exploded for five goals in the final 45 minutes. Julia Wagoner, Emma Smallcomb and Sky Delzell all scored their first goals of 2022, Brissa Valadez converted her fourth and Megan Roberts tallied her third of the year.

Abby Cozzoni, Nash, Jordyn Foelske, Anna Sharp and Kasey Shanahan all recorded assists in the game, which saw Simpson outshoot the guests 34-5. The Storm defense did not allow the Beavers to take a shot in the second half, picking up its fourth clean sheet of the season in the process.

Starting goalkeeper Lani Mears earned her fourth win of the season and Sarai Ruiz made her Simpson debut in between the posts. Along with Ruiz, Cami Graves, Maddie Hays, Morgan Kerkman, Makena Morris, Baylee Ratliff, Savannah Skaggs, and Jade Tejada all played their first minutes of the season.

"Explosive night in front of the home fans! Three more points in conference play, and another team shutout," said head coach Jeremy Reinert. "So much passion and heart on display tonight. This group is fun to be around!"

With the victory, Simpson extended its win streak over the Beavers (4-7, 0-3 A-R-C) to eight matches. The Storm have tallied 40 goals in those games, while Buena Vista has managed just one.
