Women’s soccer downs Knox 5-0

GALESBURG, Ill. – Freshman Brissa Valadez scored two goals and the Simpson College women's soccer team rolled to its first win of the season on Tuesday, defeating Knox 5-0.

Valadez connected on a goal in each half, opening up the scoring in the 16th minute and tacking on another goal just 17 seconds into the second frame. Cassie Nash, who later got in on the scoring action, assisted Valadez's first goal while Megan Roberts provided the assist on her second-half goal.

Jordyn Foelske headed in the Storm's second goal in the 36th minute off a corner kick by Hannah Hron, and Anna Scott scored her first career goal five minutes later with the help of freshman Anna Sharp. Nash's goal set up by Hailey Kowzan in the 52nd minute put the finishing touches on the win.

"It was great to get our first win of 2022!" said head coach Jeremy Reinert. "Strong play from our defensive and midfield units allowed our offense to go to work for most of the night. Congrats to Brissa and Anna (Scott) for earning their first career goals!"

The Storm (1-1-1) took 22 shots during the game in comparison to the Prairie Fire (0-3-0) who had one. Simpson held a 12-0 advantage in shots on goal and took 10 corner kicks.

Simpson heads south to participate in the Comet Cup on Sept. 9-10. The Storm will face Texas-Dallas and Dallas, respectively, at 6 p.m. each day.
