Simpson takes care of business in Lincoln

LINCOLN, Neb. – The offense was rolling once again for the Simpson College women's soccer team on Wednesday night in Lincoln. Behind goals from five different players, the Storm downed Nebraska Wesleyan 7-0.

Two goals from the reigning United Soccer Coaches National Player of the Week, Cassie Nash, opened the scoring for the Storm (8-5-1, 5-2 A-R-C) early in the first half. Hailey Kowzan added a goal in the 21st minute, giving Simpson a 3-0 lead at intermission. Megan Roberts and Julia Wagoner assisted Nash on her goals, while Avery Plathe aided Kowzan's score.

Jordyn Foelske scored her fourth goal of the season to stretch the lead to four before registering her first career multi-goal game with another goal less than four minutes later. Anna Scott got in on the scoring in the 71st minute and Brooklyn Scanlon capped things off with her first career goal.

Nebraska Wesleyan (6-7-1, 2-4 A-R-C) managed eight shots against the Storm defense, which collected its fifth shutout of the year. Lani Mears made four saves before giving way to Brenny Frederick late in the second half.

Simpson's offense placed 15 of 23 shots on frame. The Storm have now converted five or more goals in three consecutive games. The last time the team accomplished that feat was during the 2004 season.

With the win, Simpson moves into a tie with No. 17/14 Loras for second place in league standings. The Storm and Duhawks are one point behind No. 7/10 Wartburg, which has 16 points in A-R-C play.
