Storm roll past Dubuque on Senior Day

INDIANOLA, Iowa - Cassie Nash continued her standout season, netting another hat trick to lead Simpson women's soccer team to a 5-1 drubbing of Dubuque, Saturday, at Buxton Stadium.

The Storm (9-5-1, 6-2 A-R-C) got off to a roaring start, after a perfect pass from Julia Wagoner split the defense, which Nash ran on to and scored, putting Simpson up 1-0 in the first five minutes.

Nash added her second goal just past the 15 minute mark, heading a lofted pass from Hailey Kowzan past the Dubuque goalkeeper, before slotting the ball home into an empty net.

The game got away from the Spartans (5-4-7, 2-2-3 A-R-C) just 25 minutes in, with Brissa Valadez collecting a ball at the top of the box after a challenge by Maddie Hays and expertly creating a half yard of space before firing the ball into the bottom left corner.

It took less than 15 minutes for Nash to get her hattrick, with the assist once again coming with Kowzan. The game was wrapped up after Anna Scott scored Simpson's fifth, off a pass from Sky Delzell.

Dubuque grabbed a consolation goal through Anna Wiegand with 90 seconds to go, but the Storm ran out as 5-1 winners.

After the match, the Storm recognized 11 seniors on Senior Day. Lizzie Arnburg, Bailee Cook, Abby Cozzoni, Sky Delzell, Brooklin Froehlich, Maya Gault, Cambri Mason, Cassie Nash, Baylee Ratliff, Megan Roberts, and Jade Tejada were all honored for their contributions to the program.
